Lawn Cutting Tools for Rental and Purchase

Lawn cutting tools are essential for maintaining a neat and healthy yard. They range from various mowers to precision edgers, all designed to handle different aspects of lawn care.

Lawn Mowers

Many of the rental companies provided above provide rentals for both gas powered and electric lawn mowers. Purchase or rent a gas mowers if you have a large area to mow and are looking for more powerful and are better for large areas. Electric mowers may be a better option if you have a smaller area and are looking for a more quiet lawn mowing experience. Many of the big box stores (like Lowe’s and Home Depot) even now offer robotic lawn mowers available for purchase that will automate lawn cutting tasks.

Lawn Trimmers

Lawn trimmers, also known as grass trimmers or weed whackers, are made to cut grass where mowers are just too big and unwieldy to reach (like along fence lines). They use a spinning string to trim grass and overgrowth. They come in both electric and gas powered models. Consider buying or renting a gas powered trimmer for more heavy duty jobs with thicker grass that you need to cut through. Gas powered trimmers obviously don’t need to be continuously recharged while trimmers are much more quiet and don’t emit fumes when operating.

Lawn Edger Rentals

A lawn edger is a specialized tool to create clean lines along the edges of a yard, driveway, or garden bed. It gives a polished look to the edges of your landscaping project. They come in both electric (quiet, shorter run time) as well as gas powered (more powerful) varieties.

Sod Cutter Rental and Purchase

A sod cutter is a piece of equipment used to remove strips of grass to either relocate or replace sod. This tool comes in handy for lawn renovation projects. They vary in size, with larger cutters suitable for wide open areas and smaller, manual models for precision work in smaller spaces.

Tools for Rental and Purchase for Healthier Grass

These tools aid in soil nourishment and root development.

Aerator Rental and Purchase

Lawn aerators improve soil drainage, make nutrients available to grass roots, and encourage worm activity – yes, worms are very beneficial to your lawn. Types include spike aerators and plug aerators. A spike aerator makes small holes in the soil to let air and water in. A plug aerator is for lawns that are more compacted. With a plug aerator, you’ll actually be removing a core (or plug) of grass and soil from the lawn. Plug aerators are generally thought to be much more effective than spike aerators.

Power Rakes and Detatchers

You’ll want to consider renting or buying a power rake or dethatcher to remove excess thatch from your lawn. Thatch is organic matter – like dead grass and leaves – that accumulates on your lawn and prevents moisture and nutrients from reaching the soil. Both of these tools help to thin that layer and keep your lawn healthy.

Overseeders

An overseeder helps ensure a more full lawn by sowing seed over existing turf. This tool reduces the bare spots and improves your lawn without the need to lay down new sod.

Lawn Roller

A lawn roller aids in leveling the ground and makes sure that the seeds have a better chance of establishing themselves by ensuring the seeds are pressed closely to the soil. Seeds obviously need to be in touch with the soil for successful germination.

Blowers

Leaf blowers serve as essential time-savers for clearing leaves and debris. Rental options include both handheld and backpack models. Electric powered landscape tools are a great fit for small areas and gas powered tools offer more mobility for larger landscapes. Removing excess leaves with blowers can prevent excess thatch buildup that can choke your lawn by preventing nutrient and water absorption.

Tree Maintenance Tools for Rental and Purchase

Chainsaw

Gas powered chainsaws are the optimal choice for cutting large branches due to their power and mobility. Electric chainsaws offer a quieter operation, suitable for residential areas and smaller tasks. If you face lots of cutting work, a gas chainsaw is probably a better option. Electric chainsaws are good if you just have to take care of a few branches or overgrown saplings.

Power Pruners

Trimming branches can be awkward, back breaking work. Power pruners significantly ease the task of trimming branches. They range from battery-powered pole saws for extended reach to versatile handheld pruners, providing convenience for various pruning jobs.

Wood Chippers

A wood chipper turns tree debris into mulch or chips, reducing waste and making your debris pile much more manageable. Plus, the chips can be used as mulch allowing you to keep the chopped up wood in your yard as opposed to discarding it.

Stump Grinder

Stump grinders are heavy equipment that remove tree stumps effectively. They leave the ground clear for new plantings or landscaping.

Fence Tools

Post Hole Diggers

Post hole diggers are manually operated (non-powered) tools that are vital for fencing projects. Users operate these hand tools to create precise holes for fence posts. They have two handles and clamshell-like blades which close to remove soil as they dig, allowing for consistent and even post placement.

Powered Augers

Augers streamline the post hole digging process, especially for larger scale landscaping projects. They use a rotating screw blade that bores into the ground instead of manually using a post hole digger. This makes them more efficient than a post hole digger.

Specialized Landscaping Tools

Trenchers for French Drains and Sprinklers

Contractors rely on trenchers to dig narrow channels for french drains and sprinkler systems. These machines come in various sizes, with smaller versions suitable for tight spaces and larger ones designed for open areas. Trenchers may be either electric, which limits emissions and noise, or gas-powered, preferred for their mobility and power. Both are much more efficient and will improve efficiency by replacing manual shoveling.
